Out on a Weevil hunt [for slayers_desire]

Cardiff at night is a very different beast than it is during the day. The streets are mostly empty of people, the lights around the city staying lit despite the absence, and the sound of the sea is ever so slightly louder without the noise of traffic to drown it out.

Jack is alone in the Hub as usual, monitoring the Rift while the rest of the team sleep at home. He looks up at the sound of Mainframe's chime, and gets up to look at the readouts. "Weevils on the loose, huh?"

Hunting Weevils alone is generally dangerous, and while Jack doesn't fear death at their claws, it would be rather inconvenient. Fortunately, he knows just who to call.

It is night in Metropolis too. April was reading a book, when her PINpoint rang. She answered it quickly, not wanting to wake her sleeping children (who were just down the hall).

"Hello?"

"April Kent, my favorite huntress," Jack says, and even though she can't see him, the grin in his voice is unmistakable.

[slayers_desire]

"Jack, my favorite time traveler." He always makes her smile with his compliments. "What do I owe this pleasure?"

[fractured_agent]

"Remember that chat we had a while back, about you possibly giving me a hand with Weevil containment?"

[slayers_desire]

"I certainly do. You need some assistance?"

[fractured_agent]

"I can probably handle it if you aren't available, but an extra pair of hands would be appreciated."

[slayers_desire]

"You picked a good time. The babies are sleeping. Clark is home. I just will tell him where I am going, and then can be right over."

[fractured_agent]

"I'll see you soon then." He gathers up a few pairs of restraints and some Weevil spray, then heads up to the surface to wait for her arrival. He's armed, but he doesn't know if she would even use a gun if he offered her one. Vampires tend to hunt more naturally, he thinks.

It doesn't take her long to tell Clark about where she is going, and gather some supplies before PINpointing over. Since it is a hunt, she is bringing some bottled blood, for later... when her vampire urges get the better of her.

Jack doesn't dress any differently than normal when out Weevil hunting, it seems. He smiles when he sees her, and although they have business at hand, he gives her a hug. "Good to see you. How're things?"

[slayers_desire]

The only thing different about her is that her hair is up, and pulled out of her face. "I am doing good. I am looking forward to this."

[fractured_agent]

"Kids are great, but you gotta get out of the house every now and then," Jack agrees. He hands over one set of restraints, and what looks like an aerosol can. "Here, you'll need these."

[slayers_desire]

"Thanks." April checks over the restraints to know how they work, and the same with the aerosol can too.

"How many do you figure we are hunting?"

[fractured_agent]

"Reports indicate three, maybe four spotted so far. There's a nest about a half mile away that they might've come from. Usual procedure is to corner them, keep them subdued with the Weevil spray, and cuff them while they're docile, then bring them back to the Hub for tagging."

[slayers_desire]

"I can handle helping with that." She doesn't mind the hunt, but prefers not killing sentient creatures when she can help it.

[fractured_agent]

Jack prefers it too. Killing aliens was the old Torchwood way, and something he threw out the moment he took the reins. Never again will a species be killed just because it doesn't belong here, not on his watch. They can't send the Weevils home, but they can at least try to coexist.

"We'll be going on foot for now, but if I get any more reports we might have to take the van. Any questions?"

[slayers_desire]

"You sure you can keep up with me on foot?" April teases lightly. Of course, even with her enhanced speed, she wouldn't leave him behind. He knows this city much better than she does.

[fractured_agent]

"If I don't, you'll get lost," he replies with a wide smile. He knows as well as she does that she wouldn't leave him behind either.

[slayers_desire]

"Then I better stick close by... keep you safe."

[fractured_agent]

"That's the spirit." He tilts his head a little to indicate which direction they need to go. "This way."

[slayers_desire]

It was ages since April had gone on a hunt, so she is very excited. She is already alert, her vampire huntress side ready for anything.

"Do the Weevils hunt as packs?"

[fractured_agent]

"Sometimes. When left to their own devices, they do. But the ones who come to the surface usually act separately from each other." But she already knows about the hivemind, so she knows that they aren't completely alone, either.

[slayers_desire]

"Do we already have a lead on them?" Because she could tune to the hivemind to find the Weevils too.

[fractured_agent]

"Just a general area sort of thing. We'll find more clues once we get closer." He hopes that they'll find the Weevils before the Weevils find anyone else. Bodies are a great trail, but he prefers to not let the citizens of Cardiff get mauled.

"I will be able to pick up their scent... or their hivemind. Once we get close enough."
