Out on a Weevil hunt [for slayers_desire]

Cardiff at night is a very different beast than it is during the day. The streets are mostly empty of people, the lights around the city staying lit despite the absence, and the sound of the sea is ever so slightly louder without the noise of traffic to drown it out.

Jack is alone in the Hub as usual, monitoring the Rift while the rest of the team sleep at home. He looks up at the sound of Mainframe's chime, and gets up to look at the readouts. "Weevils on the loose, huh?"

Hunting Weevils alone is generally dangerous, and while Jack doesn't fear death at their claws, it would be rather inconvenient. Fortunately, he knows just who to call.

"Yes... I can smell it too." April tilts her head, waiting for Jack to lead the way.

[fractured_agent]

"Got it... two hundred meters this way." He starts to follow the signal, then stops and frowns. He turns halfway around, looking at his readouts. "Another one that way. Little bit farther out."

[slayers_desire]

"What is your recommendation? Handle one at a time, or split up and each capture one?"

[fractured_agent]

"Normally I'd say we need to stick together, but you can handle yourself." There's a silent question there, of whether she thinks she can handle one Weevil. He has the utmost confidence in her.

[slayers_desire]

"I will be fine Jack. This will be fun." She gives him a grin, with her fangs, then turns to hunt at the one who is a little bit farther out. It will give her a chance to properly hunt it. Using her senses to her advantages...

((okay, srsly bed time))

Jack flashes a grin at her, and sets off in pursuit of the closer Weevil.

The one that April is following is moving quickly, loping through the streets in search of its own prey. There's always someone out at night...

The Weevil might be moving quickly, but April has her vampire speed. She should be able to catch up to the creature, before it finds its own prey.

The Weevil is fast, but of course April is faster. She catches up to it on a downtown street, lit only by the streetlamps that line the road.

It isn't aware that it's being followed just yet, but it starts to sniff the air, catching a scent of something dangerous.

She remembers the caged Weevil, and how it caught her scent and cowered because of it. This one would just run...

So April slides into shadow-mode. After all, a shadow has no scent. And moves again to get closer to the Weevil.

It moans, disturbed by both the turbulence in the Rift and the unidentified scent of a predator. But it can't see or hear anything dangerous, and that confuses it.

It continues down the road, sniffing for the scent of humans, following a trail towards a nightclub.

She moves quickly in shadow-mode, popping out in front of the creature before it can get within sight of the nightclub. April delivers a swift kick to the creature's head, hoping to knock it out before it can run from her.

The Weevil's head is very hard, so it just bellows in pain and confusion. It lashes out with its claws, blindly trying to hit whatever just struck it.

[slayers_desire]

She quickly returns to shadow-mode, so that the claws swipe through her without any injury. And then comes out again... delivering a fast kick to the Weevil's gut.

The Weevil is frightened now, not knowing why the strong predator-scent keeps appearing when it feels pain. It moans and curls in on itself defensively, snarling to try to scare off whatever is hurting it.

[slayers_desire]

The snarling doesn't scare April, she pins the creature as it curls in on itself. And uses the Weevil restraints to get it captured. A soft growl of her own, declaring herself the stronger predator and for it to stop fighting.

[fractured_agent]

It struggles a little against the restraints, but as soon as it gets to smell her properly, it moans just as the one in the cell did, cowering in fear and respect. That will only last so long as she's nearby, but for now, it's subdued.

[slayers_desire]

Jack... I have mine captured and restrained. Where should I bring it?

[fractured_agent]

Jack is not having such an easy time with his Weevil. He's been slashed across the chest, and the blood smell makes the Weevil even more aggressive. He grits his teeth and tries again to spray the Weevil's face. This time he gets it right on target, and the alien curls in on itself, trying to avoid any more of the repellant spray getting in its face.

He takes the opportunity to cuff it, holding it by the shoulder so it won't run away. Back to the Hub. Tourist office entrance.

She can sense his pain. And picks up the cowering Weevil to take it back to the Hub. Be careful... if you are bleeding, the others might smell you

Yeah, they probably will. He doesn't sound too concerned about it, like it's happened dozens of times already. He sure doesn't enjoy it, but he accepts that he can deal with it better than his teammates.

[slayers_desire]

April hurries to ensure her capture gets to the Hub. She knows that Jack is sometimes self-sacrificing, but he has forgotten that this time that his teammate is just as determined.

She is anxious to complete the hunt. And capture more...

[fractured_agent]

The Weevil doesn't resist her, hoping that obedience will lead to its survival. The tourist office is locked, but there's a faint click as she approaches, the monitoring systems recognizing her to allow her in.

Jack, meanwhile, begins to march his captive Weevil back towards the Hub. He's not sure if it's just his imagination, but he thinks he can hear the sounds of upset Weevils out in the dark.

April leads the Weevil downstairs of the Hub to the cells. She recognizes that it is cooperating with her. "Good boy..." She mutters, locking it up.

She tunes to the others, using the Hive Mind to get a bearing on where she should head next to capture another one.

The Weevils are agitated, both by the disturbance from the Rift that drove some of them out, and because some of their fellows are being hurt. A group of them are coming to the surface to find their lost ones and bring them back, and they're homing in on where Jack is, drawn by the mind of his captive and the smell of human blood.

[slayers_desire]

April moves quickly to find Jack, before the other Weevils do. She too can smell his blood. And knows she needs to act quickly...
