The city of Cardiff is eerily quiet in the aftermath of Abbadon's passing. Those who died beneath his shadow had their life forces returned once the demon died... all but one.

Captain Jack Harkness lies in the Torchwood Three morgue, cold as stone. Gwen sits at his side, waiting patiently for him to revive. But where he only took minutes to come back from the dead before, there isn't even a whisper of life from him now.

Lost without their leader, who they so recently betrayed, the team drifts in uncertainty.

It's Tosh who finds April's contact information in Jack's antique Rolodex, and gives her a call, not sure if this is a plea for help or a final death notice.

"How'd you guys call her, anyway?" Jack asks the others.

"I looked through your desk," Tosh admits. "I figured your friends would want to know you were dead, and April in particular."

"Luckily I was in the city." April makes a small lie. But it is so natural to her, that no one will notice anything weird. (Because she is still not breathing, so there is no visible signs).

That makes sense to Tosh. She didn't recognize the area code, but if it could reach April while she was traveling, it must be a mobile number. "Very lucky," she agrees.

Hopefully no one will ask her where she was when the Demon attacked. But if they do, April is sure Jack will help her cover her tracks.

"It is a beautiful city."

Owen and Gwen both laugh at that. "Oh, now we know you aren't a local," Gwen says.

Jack smiles and looks at April. Doesn't look like they mind you being a vampire at all, does it?

No it doesn't. I am glad they all took it well...

"I do enjoy exploring new places and cities."

[fractured_agent]

I told you they would. He's pretty proud of his team. When he picked them all, he'd tried for people who could handle the unknown without blinking. Jack's Torchwood has no use for people who can't deal with other non-hostile species peacefully.

"Well, for the immediate future, I'd recommend not hanging around Cardiff," Tosh says apologetically. "We don't know yet if the Rift has closed properly or if it'll be more active."

April smiles softly, knowing that the team just worries for her safety. Tosh didn't mean any offense.

"I will be safe."

[fractured_agent]

Jack frowns as a thought occurs to him. "Speaking of which, why isn't my phone ringing off the hook?"

"We... turned it off," Tosh admits, well aware that it's against regulations too. "None of us were in any state to deal with the Prime Minister, or anyone else."

[slayers_desire]

"I have never enjoyed the whole political parts of the job. Luckily, I hardly have to handle them."

[fractured_agent]

"Unfortunately I don't get that luxury. I'd better let him know everything's under control." Jack stands up, feeling only a hit of weakness left from his prolonged case of death. He gives April a warm hug. "Thanks for helping out."

"You are welcome. I am glad that I could help."

[fractured_agent]

"So am I." He doesn't have a clue what he can do for her that would make up for her great effort today, but he's certainly willing to do anything she asks. Without her intervention, he has no idea how long it would've been before he'd recovered enough to revive.

((Changed canon a bit but I think it's for the better... at least his team gets a little time with him before he disappears for a few months, lol. In canon, the same day he finally revives, the TARDIS appears and Jack jumps at the chance to find the Doctor, so his team have no idea where he's gone.))

((I read that. I assume the TARDIS is still arriving?))

((Yeah, I see no reason to change that. But it won't be for a couple in-universe days since Jack revived so much earlier. It's a pretty important trip for Jack, since he reunites with the Doctor and finds out how he got to be immortal, and that it can't be reversed. I'd invite April along but he's gone for a year from his perspective and I know she definitely doesn't want to be away that long.))

((Nah I am good to miss that little adventure. I am glad Jack still gets to experience it. They will just have to catch up when he returns))

((His team might want to call in April to help once he goes missing... first to try to find him with her powers, then for help with Weevil hunts and so forth. We can handwave those if you want, since there's no real plot involved.))

((sounds like a plan for me. I assume April will only get a tiny glipse of him, time travel and all. But she will prove herself worth in Weevil hunts. LOL))

((Pretty much. First he's in the year 300 trillion, I think, which is probably far beyond the normal scope of April's abilities. Then he's technically in an alternate timeline, since the year is contemporary but gets undone at the end. So his temporal location would probably be hard for her to pin down. But she would be able to tell the team that he left of his own accord and wasn't kidnapped, and that he'll be back.))
