The Character Physically
1. What is the character's stature and build? Is he overweight? Thin? What is his height and weight?
Jack is broad-shouldered and solidly built, and keeps himself in good shape both aesthetically and in terms of physical strength and health. He stands at six feet tall and approximately 180 pounds, with very little body fat.
2. How old is he?
Jack is thirty-eight years old when the events on the Gamestation take place. By 2007 (the beginning of Torchwood season 1), he is 176. By 2009 (the end of Torchwood season two), he is 2053. The age at which I portray him will vary greatly, depending on where he is in his life. Right now he's at the beginning of Torchwood season one, so he's about 176, give or take. Time travel tends to throw off birthdays a bit.
3. Describe his posture. Is it good? Does he carry himself well? Is he crooked? Straight?
Jack carries himself casually most of the time, but his stance and cadence depend on what he's doing. He's been trained to be both a soldier and a seducer, so his body language will be far more relaxed in a casual setting than if he's dealing with someone he considers a superior officer, where he will stand far straighter at parade rest or salute.
4. Is he in good shape or out of condition? Is he muscularly weak or strong?
Jack is in excellent shape, and is a moderate level stronger than a 21st century human, though not enough that he would be considered to have superstrength of any kind.
5. How is his health? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
Jack is in perfect health, due to both genetic engineering and spending two years being maintained by nanogenes. He is completely able-bodied and heals faster than normal. After the incident on the Gamestation, Jack is unable to stay dead, and will revive and heal completely within minutes of death. His aging process is almost completely frozen.
6. Is he physically active or sedentary? A fast or slow mover?
He is very active and tends to spend a lot of time running, whether by choice or otherwise. He's a half-decent sprinter.
7. Is he clumsy, awkward, graceful?
He is almost always graceful, through both natural talent and extensive training.
8. Does he move in straight or curved lines? Is he physically tight or fluid?
It depends on what he's doing. He often chooses the straight course, but his motions are far more fluid than restrained.
9. What are his chief efforts?
Used to be scamming the Time Agency and trying to find out what happened during the time when his memories were blocked, but since the latter is now resolved, he traveled with the Doctor for a time until he was left behind on the Gamestation. Now he waits for the Doctor's return in hopes of learning the source of his unwanted immortality, protecting the Earth from aliens that come through the Cardiff Rift.
10. Is the character good-looking, pretty, beautiful, average, plain, ugly, disfigured?
Jack is physically attractive, well-proportioned and with clear features.
11. Is the character aware of himself physically? His looks?
Very aware, and uses it to his advantage often. However, even though he comes across as vain about his own appearance sometimes, he doesn't care what his romantic partners look like, caring far more about their personalities.
12. Describe his complexion and skin. Dark, light, clear, marked?
His skin is unmarked by scars or blemishes, except for a single surgical scar on his lower abdomen, which can only be seen when he gets a dark tan. He's light-skinned, though not pale.
13. Describe his hair, coloring, styling. Is it taken care of?
Jack's hair used to be sun-bleached blond, but years of space travel have darkened it to brown. He keeps it well groomed, in a short stylishly-messy style with a side part.
14. How is his usual dexterity? Does he have good hands: Can he do things? Is he a worker?
Jack has higher than normal dexterity for a human, though not to a superhuman degree. He likes to tinker with electronics and is more than willing and capable of doing physical labor.
15. Is he physically tense or relaxed, nervous, controlled?
He is almost always relaxed, at least outwardly.
16. What are his chief tension centers?
His shoulders and upper back.
17. What part of his body would you notice first?
His bright smile, with almost unnaturally white teeth.
18. Describe his basic gravity factor. Is there a downward pull or buoyancy?
Jack is solidly planted in gravity without coming across as heavy.
The Character's Clothes
1. How many clothes does this character have?
He's never put stock in having lots of clothes on hand, and after the incident on the Gamestation, he was forced to trade his modern clothes for period-appropriate clothing until the 1940s, upon which he traded them for an RAF officer's uniform.
2. What items are in his wardrobe?
He nearly always wears a light-colored button-down shirt with suspenders(braces), tan boots, dark blue trousers, and a wool greatcoat. He also always wears his leather wrist strap, which houses a small computer that allows him to run scans, send messages, display holograms, teleport, and travel through time. However, a large time jump burned out an already overstressed crystal within the device, making it unreliable.
3. What is his favorite article of clothing?
Definitely his officer's greatcoat.
4. What colors are the clothes? Is there a wide range? Bright or dull? What are his favorite colors to wear?
He's nearly always in dark blue, though his shirts are almost always light-colored. He tends to stick to the same color scheme without much variation.
5. Are his clothes bright or dull?
Dull, both out of personal preference and because it helps him blend in a crowd better.
6. Were they bought or home-made, hand-me-downs, expensive?
Store bought or government-issued, depending on the article.
7. What is one of his favorite items to wear?
His wristcomp qualifies, as he never takes it off, even when sleeping.
8. Do his clothes fit well?
They certainly do.
9. Is he comfortable in what he wears? Does he "fight" his clothes?
Jack is very comfortable in what he wears, even if he's wearing nothing at all.
10. Is he confident about the way he dresses, or uneasy?
Very confident.
11. Does he care for his clothes? Keep them up and neat? Is he worried about how they look?
He prefers not to be grungy, but sometimes in his line of work it can't be helped, and he's more concerned with getting the job done than keeping his clothes clean. He gets cleaned up as soon as possible though.
12. Does he have to dress a certain way because of his job or position? If so, do his usual clothes fit his real, basic character?
He used to have to conform to military standards during World War II, and although his job doesn't require it any longer, he still continues to dress that way out of personal preference. However, he doesn't dress with current military trends, preferring to continue to dress as a WWII officer.
13. Does he dress according to a self image of himself? Is that self image conscious or unconscious? At what age was this self image made?
Jack's self-image of himself as a soldier was realized at age fifteen, when he joined the human forces in the War of the Sands. After being honorably discharged, he joined the Time Agency, where he wore another pseudo-military uniform. Once he left the Time Agency, he continued to dress in militaristic clothing, except during the time when he traveled with the Doctor, where he wore a much more casual style. A lot of it is a conscious decision on his part, and he tends to feel more comfortable in the military framework.
14. What kind of underwear does he wear?
Jack doesn't tend to worry about underwear, but if he must wear it, he tends to go for boxers.
The Character's Voice
1. Does he speak in a high or low pitch voice? When might he be higher than usual? When lower?
His voice is about medium pitched, leaning towards the deeper side. His pitch tends to be higher in stressful situations, and lower in seductive ones.
2. Is he a loud or soft talker?
Depends on the circumstances. He often comes across as loud and brash in casual conversation, though he's toned down a lot since becoming immortal.
3. Is there a wide range in the voice in volume, pitch and/or quality, or is the voice pretty consistent and even?
His voice is fairly even most of the time, unless he's trying to manipulate someone.
4. Is there good resonance to the voice? Is the voice throaty, chesty, heady, nasal?
Jack has been extensively trained on how to use his voice, so he has a good resonance to it and it tends to come from the throat or upper chest.
5. Is there tension in the voice? Anxiety? Emotion?
Usually no tension or anxiety, no. He can hide his emotions flawlessly when he wants to, but often chooses to show them openly.
6. Is there an accent? Anything unusual in pronunciation? Emphasis? Phrasing?
Jack's accent is closest to Midwest American, though he does occasionally pronounce things in the British way, such as "schedule" with a soft "sh" instead of a hard "sk."
7. Is it a trained voice, or just natural?
Trained within an inch of its life.
8. Does the character "try" to speak well or just "how it comes out"?
A lot of his charm is natural, but a lot of it is also extensive training and flash-learning that he has to consciously call up.
9. Is the speech clear or muddy? Does he mumble? Is he distinct?
Clear and distinct at all times.
10. Is the voice comforting or irritating? Reassuring or disturbing?
Comforting and reassuring, often authoritative.
11. Is he self-conscious when he speaks to others? How large a group could he speak to before he became self-conscious?
Jack could talk to the entire galactic population and not be self-conscious in the slightest.
The Character's Mind
1. Is the character smart, dumb, naive?
Very smart, and old beyond his years when he was younger. Unfortunately for him, his immortality now means that while he looks young, his eyes often betray his true age, making people assume he's an "old soul."
2. Does he think quickly? Slowly? Is he quick-witted? Dull?
Jack's quick-witted and tends to go through multiple scenarios in a flash before deciding what he wants to do.
3. What kind of education has he had?
He was home schooled by his parents, as most Boeshani children were, using the galactic holonet as an educational tool. This continued until he was fourteen. He spent a over year in the military on active duty, skipping academy training entirely in favor of learning on the job, and then spent two years at the Time Agency as a cadet before being promoted to a full Agent. His training continued with a four-Agent group for three years until he became a Senior Agent, then Captain seven years later, at which point he was officially done training and allowed to go on solo missions.
4. What subjects does the character have knowledge or expertise in?
Thanks to flash-learning, Jack has far more knowledge than someone of his years should have, specializing in galactic history and futures, cultural standards and languages, and species standards. He's also experienced with a wide variety of weaponry, including blades, projectile and energy weapons, and hand-to-hand combat. He also has psychic training to build up mental barriers and allow for limited influence on others, knowledge of torture and stealth techniques, military maneuvers and codes, and seduction and deception.
5. Is the character impulsive or deliberate in reaching conclusions? Is he logical, rational, or emotional?
He tends to be impulsive, but rational. He does get emotional at times, which does occasionally drive his decisions.
6. Does he think out things before he speaks or can he "think on his feet" as he is speaking?
He usually thinks on his feet.
7. Does he have contemplative times? What does he think about when alone?
He has contemplative times all the time, usually thinking about the Doctor and the implications of eternity.
8. Is he an idealist? A pragmatist? A dreamer? An idea man? An action man?
Jack is very much an action man, and not much of a dreamer or idealist. He does like to think the best of people, but he's been burned too much to automatically assume such.
9. Is his life motivated chiefly by abstract ideals or practical rewards?
Practical rewards, for the most part.
The Character's Emotions and Personality
1. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
Jack is the most extroverted extrovert ever.
2. Does he get along well with people? Does he have charm? Are people attracted to him? Does he like people?
He gets along very well with people and has both natural and trained charm. He loves people in general, and people tend to be attracted to him.
3. Does he have many friends? Any close friends?
He has a lot of people that he's friendly with, but as for close friends, he only has a handful of people he counts as such. Rose and the Doctor are at the top of his list, and a few of the people he's met in the Nexus such as April Kent and Victor Allen.
4. Is he hot-blooded or cool-headed?
He tends to be hot-blooded.
5. Does he have a narrow or wide range of emotions? Do they show often?
Wide range of emotions that he shows when he wants to, which is often with the more positive emotions, or when he gets angry.
6. Does he indulge in emotional peaks, outbursts, or valleys? Often?
Not often, but it does happen.
7. Would you say he is basically sensitive or callous?
He used to be more callous, but is sensitive more often than not.
8. Is he suspicious, cautious, trusting, or naive about new people or situations?
Jack tends to be suspicious, although he doesn't like to be. His life has trained him to expect betrayal, so he's careful around people he doesn't know very well.
9. Is he an aggressive or reactive person? Is he a pusher or a puller?
More aggressive than reactive, and definitely more of a pusher than a puller.
10. Does he take positive or negative action?
He tries to take action that has a positive result, although sometimes this involves a more violent solution than he'd like.
11. In a danger or emergency situation would he go to it or run away from it?
Definitely towards it, if there's any good he can do.
12. Is the character basically nervous or calm?
Calm.
13. Does the character have a sense of humor? Does he appreciate jokes? Can he see humor in unfunny situations? Can he laugh at himself?
Jack has a great sense of humor, and definitely loves jokes and risqué stories. He laughs at himself easily and sometimes does indeed find humor in unfunny situations, although the latter is not always the case.
14. Can he tell a funny story or joke? Do others find him amusing?
Most of his funny stories revolve around his own life experiences, occasionally exaggerated for comedic effect. Many people find his stories hilarious.
15. Is he a practical joker? What is his opinion of tricks or jokes played on other people?
Jack likes jokes that are told, but practical jokes are not usually okay.
16. Is his humor ever cruel?
Not often, but he has had his moments during darker times in his life.
17. Under what conditions could he be harmful or mean or cruel to another person?
Jack hates the aliens that invaded his homeworld and killed two-thirds of Boeshane's population, and if he ever came across one that was peaceful, he would likely still harass or attempt to kill it. He also hates Daleks, and will do everything in his power to stop whatever they're trying to do. Basically if they're known for being harmful to others, or caused a personal tragedy to him, he won't be very nice about it. He also has little patience for people who don't take "no" for an answer.
18. Is he a loving person? Is he full of love and giving or rather bound and tight in this area? Is he capable of relation to others in a loving way? Is he capable of relating to one specific person in a romantic way?
People in Jack's century believe that love is a thing to be shared, and doing so leaves you with more love than you started. Monogamy is the exception rather than the rule, and for those that Jack gets close to, he often falls in love with them. If in a serious relationship rather than just a fling, he's definitely capable of being faithful to his chosen partner, although he will still flirt with others without the expectation for it going further.
19. Is he loved by any other people? In what way?
He's loved by Rose and the Doctor, but it never progressed into a deeper relationship. He's also loved by his other close friends.
20. Is he romantically in love now? With whom? Is this a happy, rewarding or frustrating situation for him?
The person he feels most romantically attracted to at the moment is the Doctor, but they're separated and he's pretty sure the Doctor doesn't feel the same way, to his disappointment. If being played during Torchwood season two, he is in a committed relationship with Ianto Jones, one of his team members. Their relationship does make him happy, but both of them are aware that one day, Ianto will die and Jack will move on to someone else, which creates considerable tension in their relationship. Currently I am playing him from season one, so they are not involved with each other yet.
The Character's Wealth, Power, and Influence
1. Does this person have much money? Does it provide position or respect from others for him?
He's put away a fair amount of money through investments and through his government salary as a member of Torchwood. His money doesn't have any bearing on whether people respect him or what position he has, but he's in a leadership position despite that.
2. Is he generous or selfish with his money and possessions?
He's frugal, not spending money on personal items, but he's generous with the budget for his team's equipment and salaries.
3. Is the character socially prominent? Is he prominent from wealth, position or office, family history, ability or accomplishment?
He isn't publically known, for the most part. As leader of Torchwood Three, his job officially doesn't exist, though his authority comes straight from the Queen and his command is higher than the police, military, and even the United Nations. He didn't set out to have this job, first coerced into joining in 1899, then inherited leadership by being the sole survivor of a mass homicide-suicide in 1999.
4. Does the character rate high in the "pecking order" with his household? Town? Area? Nation? World?
He is the leader of his team, has authority over the local police, and answers only to the Queen of England and the Doctor.
5. Does this person wield much clout? Over whom and by what means?
If he wanted to, he could walk into any military base and legally take it over. He has limited authority in other countries, but still ranks as a high level operative. His job is the most classified position in the United Kingdom.
6. Can he command others to do his bidding, by word or manipulation?
Yes, but he only chooses to do so as it pertains to his job, not for personal satisfaction.
7. How does he get his wishes daily?
Either by doing it himself, or asking one of his team to do whatever needs done.
8. To whom is he subservient? Is this submission willing or unavoidable?
The Queen of England is his only direct superior, which is an unwilling but unavoidable part of his job. The only other person Jack answers to is the Doctor, in willing and enthusiastic submission.
The Character's Activities
1. How does the character spend his time?
Monitoring the Cardiff Rift, chasing aliens, team activities to promote group cohesion.
2. What does his daily routine consist of?
Jack lives in the Torchwood Hub under his office, so he is naturally always the first one at work, and he rarely sleeps. He often spends the early morning monitoring the Rift, and after his team arrives, he dispatches them as necessary, usually going with them. Evenings are much the same as the mornings, and he rarely takes any time to himself.
3. What is his profession or work?
Secret agent for the government, monitoring alien activity on Earth and making sure there aren't any threats to the citizens of the world.
4. What things does he really like to do?
Flirting, sex, running, and just generally being around other people.
5. What things does he hate to do?
Dying, reviving after dying, reprimanding team members for mistakes.
6. What are his leisure time activities? Pastimes? Recreation?
He doesn't have much down time anymore, but when he does, he spends a lot of times on rooftops just looking down at the city. When with his team, he occasionally gets them to play some informal basketball in the Hub, or have meals together.
7. Does he play games? What kind?
Basketball on occasion, darts, anything that keeps his skills and reflexes sharp like laser tag.
8. Does he like to eat or drink? How important to him are food and drink?
Jack loves to eat and drink, although after becoming involved with Torchwood, he very rarely drinks alcohol anymore, wanting to keep a clear head for whenever the Doctor comes back. While he enjoys eating as much as most people, if in a survival situation, he will unhesitatingly go without eating or drinking since he knows he'll continue without it. He once starved himself in a wartime situation because his fellow soldiers needed the food more than he did.
9. How important is sex to him? What sexual activities does he partake in? Anything unusual?
Sex is extremely important to Jack, and he will flirt with absolutely anyone, regardless of gender or species, so long as they consent and are of age to do so. His century has very few sexual taboos and he refuses to define himself by 21st century labels, calling them "quaint little categories."
10. Is his exactitude about sex healthy or disturbing to him? Is sex a rewarding, enriching part of this person's life or is it frightening, anxious, or frustrating? Is sex a positive or negative factor in his life?
It's very positive to him, and he treats it like any other recreational activity, just one with the potential for deeper bonds with friends. He does understand that most of the people he meets in earlier centuries don't share this mindset, and never pressures anyone into anything they don't want to do, nor does he judge them for it.

Character's Religion
1. What are his specific religious beliefs? Does he belong to a specific sect or creed? Does he advocate that group's beliefs?
Jack doesn't subscribe to any particular religion, and doesn't believe that anything comes after death.
2. How important is religion to him?
Not at all.
3. Is he pious, devout?
Nope.
4. In what religious activities does he engage? What percentage of his time is devoted to it?
None whatsoever.
5. How does religion motivate his actions or affect them?
Zilch.
Character's Fears
1. What things frighten him?
Losing people he cares about, because he knows it will happen eventually. True immortality. The possibility that there is something after death after all, and he'll never see it, or be with his loved ones again. He is absolutely terrified of fairies, and with damn good reason.
2. Is he motivated by fear?
Only in the sense that he lives for the moment, enjoying what time he has with the ones he cares about, because they'll only be an eyeblink in his lifespan.
3. To what extent is he motivated; never, occasionally, usually, constantly?

Calm.

Not at all.
3. Is he pious, devout?
Nope.
4. In what religious activities does he engage? What percentage of his time is devoted to it?
None whatsoever.
5. How does religion motivate his actions or affect them?

Character's Fears
1. What things frighten him?
